Have extra mounting plates delivered if you want to take bearings from both sides of the bridge. Ensure that the lubber line of the pelorus is aligned exactly with the longitudinal axis of the ship.

A pelorus is a non-magnetic bearing circle used for taking relative bearings: you can see whether the bearing of another ship is changing and check your compass against the sun or stars. The TAX-00123 has a 125 mm gimbal-mounted card with 1° graduations, a shadow pin, and two sights on an aluminum flange. You secure it to a fixed mounting plate on deck using a thumbscrew, and after use, it is returned to the second plate in the plywood storage box.
