Preferably determine deviation using a distant object, such as a lighthouse, so that your own movement barely affects the bearing.

The TAX-00122 is a pelorus: a non-magnetic bearing ring for relative bearings, used to estimate crossing vessels, determine when a beacon is abeam, or calculate your distance from a navigation point. Compass adjusters use it to determine deviation by comparing the compass heading with the azimuth of the sun or a known bearing. The 125 mm card with 1° graduations is gimbal-mounted in a natural wood plywood box.
