1. What exactly does a comfort meter measure?
Two things at once: temperature and relative humidity. Together, these determine how a room feels – hence the name. Some models mark the comfort zone on the dial, so you can see at a glance whether the indoor climate is good.
2. What is a healthy indoor climate?
Between 40 and 60 percent humidity at room temperature. Consistently above 70 percent is a signal to ventilate; below 40 percent, the air becomes dry for throats and woodwork.
3. Does a comfort meter need power?
No. The temperature is measured with a bi-metal and the humidity with a synthetic fiber that expands and contracts with the moisture in the air. Completely mechanical, so never a dead battery.
4. Why does the humidity measurement react slower than the temperature?
That's normal: the fiber needs some time to adapt to the environment. After moving or delivery, give the instrument an hour before taking the first reading seriously.
5. Where is the best place to hang it?
Amidships or centrally in the room, out of direct sunlight and not above a stove, heater, or shower door – there you measure the source instead of the climate.
6. My comfort meter differs from a digital meter. Which one is correct?
Small differences (a few percent) are normal; every measurement principle has its own characteristics. More important than the absolute number is the trend: if the humidity rises every night, that is the information you need to act on.
