• Place the barometer in a dry place to prevent moisture and corrosion damage, especially in damp environments such as boats or RVs.
• Avoid strong cleaning or polishing agents that may damage the protective coating of the barometer housing.
• Recalibrate the barometer at the start of the season, after extended storage, or if you have any doubts about its accuracy. You can find instructions on how to do this in the FAQ.
• How do you read a barometer?
A barometer displays the current air pressure. For a weather forecast, you look at the difference from the previous reading and how quickly the pressure has changed. Rapid pressure changes indicate short-term weather changes; slow changes indicate longer-lasting weather changes.
• Where do I hang my barometer?
Air pressure is the same everywhere, but avoid locations in direct sunlight or above a heat source such as a stove. A prominent location in the boat or indoors ensures that you immediately notice pressure changes.
• How do I adjust my barometer?
Most barometers are factory-set. You can look up the current air pressure online and adjust the needle if necessary with a screw on the back of the mechanical barometer. If you have any questions, we're happy to help!
• Does a barometer work at any altitude?
Barometers are set to sea level. Calibration is required for use at higher altitudes, such as in mountains.
